Larry G. DeGroot, 56, of 1910 Gretchen Drive S.W., Cedar Raids, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the Veteran?s Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. William Harnish. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites. Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Survivors include, two brothers, his twin brother, Terry DeGroot of Cedar Rapids and Clayton DeGroot of Chamberlain, South Dakota; a brother-in-law, Eugene "Louie? Stolz of Cedar Rapids; special friend, Vernie Wynia of South Dakota; and special companion for six years, Wende Kelsey.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Winifred "Sue? Stoltz of Cedar Rapids; and two children, Tammy and Jess.
He was born the son of Stuart and Florence Judy DeGroot on July 3, 1947, in Scottland, South Dakota. Larry was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad for seven years in Sioux City and then with National Oats for over twenty-two years. Wende Kelsey, Larry?s special companion, took care of him when he was sick and in times of need.
Larry was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved to play golf. Military rites will be performed by Hanford Post No. 5.
