LaVon Darlene Witte, 92, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Terrace Glen Village in Marion. A Memorial Service will be held at noon on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion, with a visitation beginning at 11 a.m.
Lavon was born on October 7, 1933, near Volga Township, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold and Viola (Tomkins) Zittergruen. She was a 1950 graduate of Guttenberg High School. On February 7, 1952, Lavon was united in marriage to Harvey Witte in Guttenberg. She made a home for their family, and they raised their three sons together.
Lavon’s talent for quilting, sewing, cross-stitch, and knitting produced beautiful works of art, which were shared with friends and family. She was active in her community, having spent over 16 years volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Surgicare department. Most of all, Lavon enjoyed spending time with family, where she dedicated time to her love of cooking and sharing meals with her loved ones. Lavon will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lavon is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Mark (Denise) Witte, Bruce (Julie) Witte, and David (Susan) Witte; six grandchildren, Emily Witte, Jacob (Morgen) Witte, Brittany (Alex) Mariscal, Audrey (Reese) Thompson, Nicole (Matt) Landherr, and Austin Witte; nine great-grandchildren, Chandler, Tate, Theo, Larkin, Logan, Bowen, Barrett, Luke, and Riley; and sister-in-law, Violet Zittergruen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey Witte; and brothers, Charles and Robert Zittergruen.
Memorials in Lavon’s memory may be directed to Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Terrace Glen Village for their exceptional care and support during her years with them.
