Leona M. Wauters, 70, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on September 9, 2021, of natural causes. Vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. with a visitation held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, with an additional visitation one hour prior. The family respectfully requests that all guests wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Leona was born on February 1, 1951, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Dorothy Schmitz. She graduated from West Union High School in 1969. Moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and began working for Collins Radio. She retired in 2015 as a senior buyer. On August 7, 1976, was united in marriage to Dallan Wauters. From this union Jennifer (Patrick) Stephens was born October 19, 1982. Leona enjoyed traveling, making blankets for Mercy Hospital, spending time with her grandchildren and other family and friends. Leona will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Leona’s memory are her husband, Dale; her daughter, Jennifer (Patrick) Stephens of Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren, Maximus and Aria Stephens; her siblings, Marie (Don) Gurnett, Janice Roberts, Ron (Louise) Schmitz, Leroy Mullinnix, Linda Paine, Norma (Larry) Stanfield, Vernon (Lucinda) Schmitz, Lois Akey, Marilyn (Randy) Stepan, Victor (Karen) Schmitz, Cindy (Forrest) Leveille, Charlie (Marsha) Wauters, Kim Wauters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Dorothy Schmitz; her sister, Delores Mullinnix; five brothers-in-law, Bill Roberts, Jim Paine, Mike Akey, Wayne Wauters, and Ken Wauters; nephews, Brian Schmitz, Kyle Stanfield; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Margaret Wauters.
