Leonides Gutierrez Caraballo

Leonides Gutierrez Caraballo, 80, of Hiawatha, Iowa, formerly of Puerto Rico, died Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Inurnment will be held in Puerto Rico at a later date. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, assisted the family.

Leonides was born on March 15, 1946, in Yauco, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Teofilo Gutierrez Negron and Carmen Caraballo Torres. She later married Luis A. Irizarry. Leonides dedicated many years of service as a cook in public schools in Puerto Rico.

She is survived by her children, Janet Irizarry of Iowa, Carmen Irizarry of Michigan, and Luis A. Irizarry of Puerto Rico; her grandchildren, Luis E. Dasta, Luis O. Dasta, and Janelis J. Dasta, all of Iowa, Alberto Irizarry of Puerto Rico, Francismael Morales of Michigan, Frances Morales of Puerto Rico, and Jennifer Cruz, Raysa Vazquez, and Rogelio Santiago, all of Iowa; and her great-grandchildren, Iker, Jenyliz, Katelyn, Lucas, Mateo, Joanis, Alex, Jarielys, Enzo, and Ezra.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
