Linda Marie Fangmann, 78, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away at home Christmas morning. Born to Warren and Mildred Olson and raised by her grandparents, Ella Mae and Jesse Floyd, in Colorado, Linda met the love of her life, Tom Fangmann, in 1966 when he was stationed at Ft. Carson. Their story began with a ride in Tom’s red Buick Skylark convertible—a gesture that led to six months of dating and a lifetime of love. They married on January 21, 1967 at St. Mary’s Church in Cascade, Iowa, and within seven years, built a family of six that became the center of Linda’s world.

Linda was immensely proud of her four children and often bragged that each chose a career in the helping professions. She devoted herself to her family, never missing a function or a game- always cheering from the stands—not with pressure, but with unwavering support and love. In their home, Linda created a haven of values, encouragement, and warmth.

Known for her compassion, Linda fought for the underdog and welcomed everyone into her home. Friends and visitors were always greeted with open arms, a tradition that continued during her time in Arizona, where she embraced life and expanded her circle of friends. She loved showing off her children during visits, proudly driving them around in her golf cart to meet her new community.

As health challenges arose, Linda leaned on Tom, who cared for her with devotion, modeling love and commitment for their family. Her final years in Iowa were filled with joy and affection, as her family competed to spoil her with Starbucks treats, ice cream, cozy pajamas, pedicures, and countless drop-in visits.

Linda’s life was defined by love, family, and faith. She was smart, witty and strong. She gave generously of herself and was cherished by all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds peace knowing she is no longer in pain and that she was a believer and is now with Jesus and those who passed before her.

There will be a private family celebration of life at a later date.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Fangmann of Cedar Rapids; her children, Kim (Darren) Rizzio of Amana, Iowa, Carrie (Mark) Waller of Ely, Iowa, Connie (Curt) Bennethum of Ankeny, Iowa, and Clint (Stephanie) Fangmann of Ely; her grandchildren, Ashli (Sean) Perry, Kati (Cody) Hanig, Jacob (Amy) Rizzio, Colton (Jessie) Waller, Carsyn (Andrew) Waller, Alexis (Ashley) Coughennower, Abby (Derek) Howe, Cade Bennethum, Kayla (Chaz) Boots, Cael (Will) Fangmann, Cassidy Fangmann, and Kaycie Fangmann; and ten great-grandchildren.
