Lionel McElroy, 56, of Marion, formerly of Chicago, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 3:20 p.m. at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Gospel Tabernacle Church, Cedar Rapids.
Lionel was born July 10, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Lonnie Braxton and Dorothy McElroy. He was a very hardworking man. Lionel was very active at the Gospel Tabernacle Church and was the drummer for many years. He had a passion for drums and was a drummer in a band. Lionel was known for being a great motivator, very kind hearted, helpful and an encourager to others. He loved to talk with people. Lionel was a good father and a well-loved man. He was a God fearing man.
He is survived by his wife, Chiquita McElroy; son, Tahoun; godson, Zacharias; sisters, Janice (Stanford) Trayweeks and Tammy (Greg) Golden; children, Lionel McElroy, Shon Starks, Rashad Starks, Lonnie Walker, Donnie Walker, and Ariel Golden; five grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Lionel was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother at six months old.
