Lora Lee "Lorie" Bramley

Lora Lee “Lorie” Bramley, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on August 10, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.

Lorie was born on September 3, 1944, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Leora (Smith) Swanson. She was a graduate of Moville High School and went on to attend the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics. On August 14, 1965, Lorie was united in marriage to William “Bill” Bramley in Moville, Iowa.

She had a heart for children and dedicated her career to teaching at Maquoketa Valley Community School District, until her retirement in 1977, then was a substitute teacher from 1977 to 2007. Bill and Lorie loved traveling to all 50 states and over a dozen countries. Lorie was a member of PEO and the Marion Methodist Church and part of their women’s group. She also was the superintendent of Sunday School for 16 years at Earlville United Parish. Lorie enjoyed painting and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lorie is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill Bramley of Cedar Rapids; two children, Todd (Kathy) Bramley and Tara Malin; five grandchildren, Alec (Abigail) Bramley, Shane Bramley, Conor Bramley, Grayson Malin, and Payton Malin; one great-grandson, Jack Bramley; and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, James and Helen Bramley; sister, Leah Gayle Alexander; nephew, Tom Bramley; and brother-in-law, Jim (Cherie) Bramley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lorie’s memory may be directed to the family.
