Louis P. Cavros, Sr., 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center, following a brief illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Sue; six children, Maria A. (Jerry Dewitte) Cavros of Pipestone, Minnesota, Paul Louis (LaNae) Cavros, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Louis P. (Brenda) Cavros, Jr. of Adel, Iowa, Kim A. (Kim) Cavros of Augusta, Georgia, Tracy E. (Noah Ortez) Cavros and Cindy S. (Omarr Hatcher) Offerman, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, George P. Cavros (Cathy) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two sisters, Evangeline "Von? P. Lillios, of Bettendorf, Iowa and Helen McDonald of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a dining room table of "yakkers?; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Mary Cavros; a brother, Peter Cavros; and his best friends, Muffins and Bingo.

Louie was born September 9, 1924, the son of Paul and Mary (Manousakis) Cavros, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1942, where he was called "ADONNIS-The Greek God.? As Louie got older, he was called "A God-d**m GREEK.? In 1943, Louie joined the Army serving during World War II in Guam, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a Paratrooper receiving his wings at 19 years old. Louie was a 63-year member of Hanford Post #5, Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the VFW.

From 1954 to 1964, he owned his business "Lou?s Auto Repair.? Louie then worked at Weyerhaeuser for 10 years and then worked for Quaker Oats for 14 years, retiring in 1987. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, coffee group at 32nd and Oakland Rd. Hy-Vee and his special pets, Brandi and Snoopy. Louie loved going to Bingo and Chick-Fil-A.
