Louise Brendel, 79, of Central City, died Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center, following a lingering illness. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Rev. Jonna Jensen. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Inurnment: Mt. Clark Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Alfred Brendel; her children, Chris Brendel of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nancy (Richard) Meggers of Roscoe, Illinois, Jon (Nancy) Brendel of Center Point and Peter (Celesta) Brendel of Wayland; a brother, William Gage of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and six grandchildren, Amy Brendel, Sara Meggers, Molly Meggers, Ian (Leslie) Brendel, Megan Brendel and Julian Brendel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Nowlen and Betty Norris; and a brother, Avery Gage.
Louise was born October 14, 1924, the daughter of Dr. Harry M. and Florence L (Avery) Gage in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Coe College in 1946, majoring in chemistry and was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. On June 18, 1947, Louise married Dr. Alfred Brendel in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Central City. Louise enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling and her grandchildren.
