Lucile E. Hemphill, 93, of Walker, Iowa, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2007, at Walker Bible Church, Walker, where the family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Rev. Clinton Jeffers will officiate. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker. Arrangements with Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty (Robert) Grishaber of Walker; six grandchildren, Janet Mashaw, Douglas Nielsen, Karen Boynton, Julie Quint, Janelle Aberle and Jacinda Canfield; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Gertrude Hemphill of Walker; and a son-in-law, William Nielsen of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; a daughter, Shirley Nielsen; two sisters, Helen Hemphill and Wilma Dudley; and a brother, William Wachal, Jr.
Lucile was born January 29, 1914, the daughter of William and Barbara (Benesh) Wachal, Sr., in rural Linn County. In July, 1934, she was united in marriage to Clifford Hemphill at the Hoover parsonage. He died in 1961. Lucile worked in food service for the Walker Elementary School and the Walker Lanes & Café.
She enjoyed baking and making her sweet rolls and buns. Lucile loved being with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended the Walker Bible Church, where she taught Sunday school and worked in the nursery.
Memorials may be made to the Walker Bible Church or the American Heart Association in memory of Lucile.
