Margaret Ann Jensen, 97, of Gastonia, North Carolina, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at the Robin Johnson House, Gaston Hospice, North Carolina. Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2018, First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Leroy Broadway. Entombment: Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Margaret was born May 6, 1921, in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Alvin and Agnes (Helseth) Cook. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School then attended a business college. On May 11, 1946, she was united in marriage to B.A. “Bud” Jensen in Long Beach, California. A long-time Cedar Rapids resident, she worked at Penick & Ford where she met her future husband, Bud. She helped start and run operations of B.A. Jensen Masonry Construction, Inc. until retirement. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. She was a devoted volunteer for the Republican Party, an avid bridge player, sports enthusiast, and a constant and supportive companion to husband Bud in his 40-plus year educational endeavors with the Cedar Rapids School Board and Kirkwood Community College Board of Trustees. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother, a caring friend loved by all who met her.
Survivors include her children, Christine Jensen Schmalbeck (Chuck) of Norwalk, Iowa, Cassandra Jensen Longeway (Fred) of Gastonia, North Carolina and Eric Jensen (Nancy) of Spring Lake, Michigan; grandchildren, Matthew Stephen Kindred (Jessica) of Wellman, Iowa, Dana Jensen (Marquis Wong) of Chicago, Illinois and Robin Jensen of Chicago, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Traeton, Ty and Kaylee of Wellman, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, B.A. “Bud” Jensen; daughter, Cheryl Ann Jensen; and sister, Velma “Cookie” Thomas.
