Margaret Emma Pillard, 86, a resident of Bickford Cottage in Marion, formerly of Coggon, died Thursday, August 30, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon, by the Rev. Kurt Walker. Burial: Coggon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 ?" 8 p.m. Monday (Sept. 3) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Survivors include her children, Delores (Orva) McAtee of Coggon, Diane (Robert) Hamos of Keller, Texas, Donna Melchert of Valrico, Florida, Denise (Walt) Walker of Cedar Rapids and David (Wendy) Pillard of Fort Collins, Colorado; thirteen grandchildren, Gerald, Gregory and Galen McAtee, Leslie Cobern and Kerri Hamos, Jason, Trina and Alana Melchert, Nathaniel and Laura Walker, and Julia, Emily and Alyson Pillard; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean (Freeman) Smith of Manchester; and two brothers, Paul (Winona) Richardson of Walker and Louis (Dee) Richardson of Loveland, Colorado.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur; three sisters, Blanche, Marjorie and Doris; and a brother, Ivan.
Margaret was born the daughter of Russell and Emma (Zumbach) Richardson on October 30, 1920, in Delaware County, Iowa. On March 7, 1941, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Pillard. He died December 18, 2004. She was member of Zion Presbyterian Church. Margaret assisted her husband in the farm operation. A homemaker at heart, Margaret enjoyed sewing, refinishing furniture, flowers and dancing. Her canned peaches were the family favorite.
