Marie Angell, 96, of Manchester, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, October 27, 2007, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Delaware. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home, Earlville, and for one hour before service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Earlville.
Marie was born on January 12, 1911, in rural Dubuque County, Iowa, the daughter of August & Johanna [Hillers] Sundermeyer. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Delhi High School in 1929. Marie then worked as a cook for the Delaware County Home. On October 18, 1933, Marie was united in marriage to Lou Z. Angell in Delaware. The couple farmed near Delhi before moving to Manchester in 1968. Lou died on March 5, 1999. Marie moved to the Meadows Assisted Living, Manchester, in 2000.
Marie was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Delaware. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidering, and tending her flower garden.
Marie is survived by her daughter and her husband, Juanita & James Hargrave of Monticello; three grandchildren, Kenneth Pensel, Gary (Rita) Pensel & Heather (Travis) Kalous; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Elijah Kalous; a son-in-law, Wallace Pensel and his fiancee, Faye Warne, both of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Mussehl of Dubuque.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, August & Johanna Sundermeyer; her husband, Lou Angell; a daughter, Janet Pensel; two brothers, Martin Sundermeyer and Arthur Mussehl; and two sisters, Edna Meader and Ruth Maurer.
