Marie L. Forrest, 88, of 10808 16th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Donald Czapala. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a scripture service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax.
Survivors include her husband of over 68 years, Bill; her children, Jean Light of Lisbon, Iowa, James (Betty) Forrest, Kathleen (Robert) Vanous, both of Cedar Rapids and Karen (Herb) Friis of West Branch, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Connor of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Gordon (Celia) Koppert of Louisville, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Lucas Friis; a brother, Father Elias "Durward? Koppert; and a son-in-law, Dale Light.
Marie was born March 11, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Lillian Buhrow Koppert, in Marshalltown, Iowa. A graduate from St. Patrick?s High School in Cedar Rapids, she was united in marriage to William "Bill? Forrest on July 2, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa. Marie was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Homemakers of Fairfax. She was a loving mother and wife; the light of her life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the family for the University of Iowa Bone Marrow Transplant in memory of Marie.
