Marilyn F. Slater, 85, a resident at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, formerly of Central City, died Friday, December 26, 2014. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City by Pastor Darran Whiting. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, December 29, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include five daughters, Joanie (Bill) Hickey of Marathon, Florida, Kathy (Kevin) Roob of Coggon, LuAnn (Dean) Robertson of Shell Rock, Karen (Mark) Kula of Prairieburg, and Judy Nielsen of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dick Kelly of Waterloo, and Donald Kelly of San Jose, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; daughter, Linda Steele; grandson, Elijah Roob; brother Bob Kelly; and sister, Gloria Brown.
Marilyn was born on January 17, 1929, the daughter of Harry and Carol (Bing) Kelly. On February 4, 1949, she married Lyle Slater in Waterloo. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City, and the American Legion Auxiliary Wapsi Post 421.
Marilyn’s greatest joy was spending time with family. She especially cherished her mother/daughter time. She also enjoyed her flower gardens and cheering on her Hawkeyes.
