Marilyn Whittlesey, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the Westridge Care Center. Memorial service: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, officiated by Rev. Kevin Moore. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Per Marilyn’s wishes, she has gifted her body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy.
Marilyn was born April 19, 1932, in Cherokee County, the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Robeson) Haight. She married Richard Whittlesey on February 22, 1960 in Cherokee, Iowa. For over 40 years she was a nurse in the fields of public health, nursing homes and substance abuse throughout Alaska and Iowa. Marilyn was a member of the Sharon United Methodist Church and was active with Goodwill Industries and the Red Cross.
She is survived by her husband, Richard of Cedar Rapids; her children, Ardene Whittlesey of Tucker, Georgia, Pete (Theresa) Whittlesey of Fairfax, and Karen and Sharon Whittlesey of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Blake, Richelle, Zach and Delaney; one sister, Barbara Stammer of Rochester, Minnesota; and many loving family members and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
