Marion L. Shontz, 85, of 820 27th Street, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, in her home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Mike Morgan. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie (Greg) Hoffa of Rochester, Minnesota and Cathe Sorenson of Beloit, Wisconsin; and a brother, John (Jean) Maehl of Elkader.

Also surviving are four grandchildren, Paul Sorenson, Sheryl Crosby, Andrea Peck and William Hoffa.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William and a sister, Inez Cook.

Marion was born the daughter of John and Helena Koehn Maehl on February 17, 1921, in Elkader. She graduated from Elkader High School in 1939. Marion then moved to Chicago and lived there for ten years before moving to the Cedar Rapids area. On August 2, 1952, in Elkader she was married to William C. Shontz. He died on March 26, 1980. Marion was employed by United Fire and Casualty Company in Cedar Rapids as a supervisor in data processing, retiring after seventeen years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion; Women?s Friendship Group; and New Encounters.
