Marjorie Ellen McDonald, 93, of Cedar Rapids, Died Friday, January 2, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 am Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids by Father Douglas Loecke. Friends may call after 9:30 am at the church on Wednesday. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.
Survivors include her niece, Linda of Cedar Rapids; nephews, Edward (Dee) of Midland, TX, and Arthur (Peg) of Davenport. Also surviving is her grandnephew, Brian of Midland, TX, and many loving friends, including James and Dee McNeill, two especially devoted and caring friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Frances Roe McDonald, and her brother, John, Jr.
Marjorie was born April 15, 1921, in Vinton, IA, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1939. From 1939 to 1942, she was employed at Cedar Rapids Employment Agency and Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. From 1942 to 1952, she was a Civil Service employee of the United States Government, serving in Washington D.C., El Paso, TX, and Springfield, IL, finishing her duties with the Intelligence Division of the Internal Revenue Service. From February 1953 until her retirement on January 1, 1984, she was employed with Iowa Electric Light and Power Company (now Alliant Energy), the last 10 years being Assistant Corporate Secretary, one of the first of two women officers elected by the Board of Directors.
Marjorie enjoyed her volunteer hours with Mercy Medical Center and being a member of Young at Heart at All Saints Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards twice a month with friends who wouldn't allow her to win. She did enjoy her yearly trip to Las Vegas to gamble and visit friends.
Instead of flowers, it is Marjorie’s wish that anyone wishing to may give to a charity of their choosing, or extend a kindness to a person in need.
