Marjorie A. Scott, 88, a resident of Village Ridge, 365 Marion Blvd., formerly of Mechanicsville, Iowa, died Saturday, September 25, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1483 14th St. in Marion. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, Highway 151, across from the Marion HyVee where a parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Graveside Service: 2:30 p.m. at St. Patrick?s Cemetery, St. Patrick?s Rd., southwest of Fairfax, off Highway 151.
Marjorie is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Otte of Marion, Cynthia Scott of Cedar Rapids and Sally Filkins and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon; one nephew; three nieces; four grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to their great-grandmother as "GG?.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Frieda Bowler; her husband, Lee E. Scott; and two brothers, Jim Bowler and Ralph Bowler.
Marjorie was born November 8, 1915, the daughter of Albert and Frieda (Kimm) Bowler in Fairfax. She graduated from St. Patrick?s High School in Fairfax and attended Mount Mercy College. On February 14, 1935, she married Lee E. Scott at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Fairfax.
Marjorie and Lee lived in Mechanicsville for 53 years. Marjorie helped her husband raise and train Chesapeake Bay retriever dogs during the 1940?s. Later Marjorie assisted her husband with the family grocery store, Lee?s Grocery, for 27 years in Mechanicsville.
Marjorie was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church and St. Mary?s Guild when living in Mechanicsville. She was a member of the Emanon Bridge Club for 43 years, Royal Neighbors of America, American Legion Auxiliary, former member of Hillcrest Country Club in Mt. Vernon, Linn County Farm Bureau and Independent Grocers Association.
In 1988, Marjorie and her husband Lee moved to 2260 Clark Ave. in Marion. Lee died May 19, 1990. While living in Marion, Marjorie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, reading, antiques, family genealogy, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She will be missed very much by her family and friends.
