Mark David Priborsky, 54, passed away on Saturday, September 13th at University of Iowa Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Priborsky. He is survived by his two children Austin and Bailey, mother Alvina Murphy, brother Jeff Priborsky, and sister Jeannette Frederick. He was laid to rest at Czech National Cemetery on Wednesday, September 17th.
Out of all the things Mark was in life professionally, he was most proud of being a martial arts teacher and photographer. For photography, he joined the family business, Linn Photo. His love for capturing the right moment and image played out across dozens of his prints that are still around. He dedicated his life to martial arts. He opened JTA studio and was a proud teacher of many different styles of martial arts. He loved the training and the mentality that it brought and continued to share that to others.
By those who remember him, Mark was a martial artist, a chef, a painter, and a creative mind. As a martial artist, he spent many years training under Grandmaster Tae Eun Ha and he took pride in learning from him. As a chef, Mark was always looking to put a twist on holidays and birthdays. Whether this was making Beef Wellington for Christmas or homemade pasta for his kids' birthdays, Mark always wanted to make the perfect dish. As a painter, Mark painted miniatures for games that he would play with friends and family. For him, it was a creative and social outlet. This is also where his creative mind came to life. He weaved stories into life through Dungeons and Dragons with family and friends. Stories always fascinated him; telling or writing, listening or sharing. He always travelled with a book.
There are so many ways to remember Mark: best partner for 500, the toughest food critic (of his own food), a father, a brother, a son, a friend. His life and laugh will continue to live in the memories of those who survive him; while he might not be here in body, his spirit will wander with us as we continue forward.
