Marlys Marie Law

Marlys Marie Law, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Faith Bible Church with Pastor Steve Benton officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 AM on Tuesday at the church.

Marlys was born on December 26, 1937, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, the daughter of Albert P. and Dorothy Lucille (Hill) Gobeli. She was a graduate of Clear Lake High School and went on to attend the nursing program at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. On October 25, 1958, Marlys was united in marriage to Jerry Dean Law in Clear Lake, Iowa. Marlys was a hospice and oncology nurse for 30 years. A devout Christian, she was an active member of Faith Bible Church in Cedar Rapids. Marlys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she served as a mentor to many young women. She had a deep love for flowers, her family, and baking cookies, earning the affectionate nickname of "The Cookie Dealer" in her neighborhood. In her spare time, Marlys enjoyed reading, sipping tea, and sewing, and she was known for her meticulous attention to detail. Marlys will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marlys is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of 66 years, Jerry Law of Cedar Rapids; children, Tim (Stacey) Law of Walford, Iowa, and Brenda (Louie) Branchcomb of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Bobbie) Wright of Kansas City, Missouri and Mahtias (Burgundy) Wright of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and their daughter Meadow; and siblings, Marcella Manyik of La Junta, Colorado, and DeLon Gobeli of Palm Springs, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Albert DeLoss Gobeli; and brother-in-law, Earl Manyik.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marlys’s memory may be directed to Faith Bible Church or Hospice House of Mercy.
