Martin August Jochimsen

Martin August Jochimsen, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Thomas Grove Assisted Living in Marion, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 201 First Avenue, in Hiawatha, Iowa. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday at Clinton Lawn Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa.

Martin was born on March 4, 1934, in DeWitt, Iowa, one of four children to August and Anna (Steen) Jochimsen. He was a graduate of DeWitt Central High School. On June 12, 1955, Martin was united in marriage to Beverly Helen Clement in DeWitt. Together, they raised their four sons.

Martin spent his career at the Clarence Co-Op grain elevator, retiring as manager in 1994. He was exceptionally crafty and loved woodworking. Martin was counted on to be able to fix anything. He also enjoyed going bowling, camping, and playing cards. Martin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Martin is survived and lovingly remembered by his sons, Douglas Jochimsen, Steven Jochimsen, both of Cedar Rapids, and Alan (Deborah) Jochimsen of Mt. Carmel, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Trent (Maddie) Jochimsen, Melanie Jochimsen (Jon Morrow), Steven (Jenna) Taylor, Jessica “Jessi” Hintz, and Samantha “Sammi” Hintz; four great-granddaughters, Evelyn, Olivia, Maeve, and Ava Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife in 2014, Beverly Jochimsen; son, Dennis Jochimsen; and siblings, Louise Flathers, Dorothy Carstensen, and Paul Jochimsen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Martin’s memory may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
