Marvin Edward Carney, 80, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Springville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Marvin was born July 31, 1937 in Springville, Iowa, the son of Carl and Wilma (Wild) Carney. He graduated in 1955 from Springville High School and then served in the United States Army at Fort Hood Texas. He returned to the area after his discharge and farmed and worked as a carpenter. Marvin will be remembered for his love of his family as well as his delightful sense of humor. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a fan of local racing as well as Nascar racing. He enjoyed the outdoors and camping with friends and family. Marvin was a member of the Backbone Bluegrass Association.
He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Sheila Balas; children, Kim Evens, Danielle Carney, Robert “Bud” (Susan) Carney, Trudy DeLong, Scott Carney, Revital “Tali” Balas and Calaneet Balas; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a special great-granddaughter, Raedyn. He is also survived by a sister, Arlene (Robert) Knudson.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Carney.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Springville United Methodist Church, Springville. Inurnment will take place at Springville Cemetery, Springville.
