Mary Ellen Hachey, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Northbrook Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A private family graveside service will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Paul and wife Jean of Cedar Rapids, John and wife Karen of Palo, Mark and wife Cora of Puyallup, Washington, and Drew and wife Courtenay of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey; her grandchildren, Paul “PJ” (Jordan), Michael (Amy), Wylie (Carly), Nikki, Christopher (Anna), Max, and Bailey Hachey, Bryce Trillo, and Lisa (Evan) Young; and her great-grandchildren, Caleb Yoder, Owen and Reece Hachey, Elliott Rae Hachey, Palmer Joel Hachey, Lily Slaman, Emerson, Eve, and Ace Young, Melody and Declan Hachey, and CeCe Hachey; brother-in-law, Roland Hachey of Lewiston, Maine; two nephews, Martin and Matthew Johnson; and a niece, Jessica Coe.

Mary was born February 8, 1935, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of John M. and Minnie Johnson. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1952. She married Maurice “Maury” Hachey in 1954 in Houston, Texas; he died of cancer in 1997. Mary was also preceded in death by son, Joel in 1988, grandson, Gregory in 2013, her parents, and two brothers, Harold and Charles Johnson.

Mary was employed by CRST, Inc. for 34 years prior to her retirement in 2000. The last 13 years of her career were spent in Birmingham, Alabama, as Office Manager of their National Flatbed Division. After retirement, Mary moved back to Cedar Rapids to be closer to family and long-time friends. She volunteered over 25,000 hours at Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Mercy. Mary was a lifetime member of the Mercy Auxiliary, the Mercy Foundation, and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

Mary enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren and meeting with friends whenever possible. She loved her work as a volunteer and hoped she made a difference in the lives of those she served.
