Mary (Nagel) Dochterman, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation: 9 – 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with the funeral service to begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Mary was born on October 8, 1939, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Eleanor (Barker) Nagel. She graduated from West Delaware High School. Mary was united in marriage to Ernest “Pappy” Dochterman at St. Ludmilas Catholic Church on June 4, 1960. Together they were devoted foster parents for over 30 years, fostering over 274 babies. Mary was a proud sponsor of 11 children through Compassion International and Children International. She loved traveling with her loving husband Ernie. Together they took many trips to Florida and enjoyed walking Micklers Beach and hunting sharks teeth. They traveled to Europe, Hawaii and went on many cruises. They enjoyed visiting, spending time and attending events with their children and grandchildren. Mary liked shopping and going out for lunch. She enjoyed trips to Kalona because of her interest in the Amish. Mary enjoyed watching and attending Hawkeye basketball and gymnastics team events and loved listening to Kenny Rogers and Andrea Bocelli. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children Lori (Ted) McMann of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Danny) Wintringer of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Wendy) Dochterman of Andover, Minnesota and Kevin Dochterman of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Jacob (Sheena Stockero) McMann, Mandy (Nick) Hawkins, Jory (Kerry) McMann, Durham (Adrianna) Parker, Brittany Parker, Carter Dochterman and Callie Dochterman; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; and granddaughter AnnaElise McMann.
