Mary Ann was born October 12, 1917, the daughter of Leo J. and Bessis (Melsha) Koutnik. She was baptized in 1917 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School in 1935. Mary Ann married Charles R. Porazil on September 1, 1936, at St. Wenceslaus. He died May 5, 1993.
After marriage, Mary Ann and Charles became charter members of the St. Ludmila?s parish where she has been an active member ever since. She was a homemaker until going to work for Square D at age 40. She retired as a lead supervisor after 25 years. Mary Ann then went to work for four years as an alterations specialist with Von Maur.
She was a master seamstress and enjoyed making clothing, christening gowns and quilts.
She enjoyed all members of her family and was a part of all their lives. Mary Ann especially enjoyed attending St. Ludmila?s new church and her wish is for memorials be made in her name to St. Ludmila?s Catholic Church and School.
The family would like to thank Cedar Rapids Police Officer Brian Bean, Father Tom McDermott and Sister Mary Lechtenberg for their care and compassion.
