Mary Ann Usher, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Darran Whiting. Private family burial at Walker Cemetery.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, James (Cathy) Usher of Marion, Donna (Terry) Nielsen of Center Point, Mary (Brian) Godwin of Cedar Rapids, and Kate (Brian) Stapelkamp of Cresco; 11 grandchildren, Kristin, Nick, Shelley, Jeremiah, Briana, Rachel, Nathan, Leah, Ben, Marijo, and Catherine; 20 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; siblings, Raymond and Marshall Dvorak and Helen Waddle; and nephew, James Fox.
Mary Ann was born April 7, 1936, in Urbana, the daughter of Frank and Libbie (Koutny) Dvorak. She attended Walker High School and played on the girls’ state basketball team. Mary Ann was united in marriage to James Usher on March 1, 1953, in Cedar Rapids. He passed away on October 25, 2012. Mary Ann was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mary Ann’s memory.
