Mavis E. Reierson, 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and special friend too many, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at the Lutheran Nursing Home in Vinton, Iowa. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2008, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Center Point, by the Rev. David Hansen. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker.
Mavis is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clarence; two sons, Gregory (Gayle) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and Scott of Crookston, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelley) Reierson, Jennifer Reierson and Aaron (Karla) Schmidt; seven great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kaley, and Kelby Mavis, Dalton and Gabriella Reierson, Karissa and Kourtney Schmidt; two sisters, Shirley Pfister (Harold) of Elgin and Rose Marie (Dennis) Scully of Oelwein; sister-in-law, Donna Bachman (LaVern) of Oelwein; an uncle Donald (Mardelle) Bachman of Oelwein; and many nieces and nephews, who thought the world of their aunt.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and LaVern Bachman; brother-in-law, Harold Pfister; nephew Wayne Bachman, and nephew-in-law, Eric McNeal.
Mavis was born December 15, 1937, in Hawkeye, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Mabel (Boeckenheuer) Bachman. On December 19, 1954, she was united in marriage to Clarence Leslie Reierson at the East Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. Mavis held several jobs over the years, but none were as special to her as working along side Clarence on the family farm. As a young girl, she also enjoyed working along side her father on the farm.
Mavis enjoyed attending and cheering on her sons as they competed in various sporting events. She also enjoyed playing cards in the neighborhood card club. Mavis was very proud of earning her GED from Kirkwood Community College in April, 1983.
Mavis was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Center Point, Iowa. She was also a member and Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Ray Post 376 of Walker and at one time served on the Walker City Council.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Home in Vinton, Amenity Hospice, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Center Point, or American Legion Auxiliary Ray Post 376, in memory of Mavis.
