Maxine Elizabeth Johnson, 86, a resident of Willow Gardens, died Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the care center. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Survivors include her children, Shirley Thompson, Jerry Smith, both of Cedar Rapids, Nancie Smith of Hiawatha and Marcia Conrad of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mildred Popinski of Minnesota, Ada Clark of Cedar Rapids and Viola of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Richard; infant brother; two sisters, Claire and Betty; and a lifelong companion, Frank Jacobs.
Maxine was born April 7 1923, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Fogel) Midkiff, in Independence, Iowa. She married Lloyd Smith and later married Erwin Johnson. Maxine enjoyed bird watching and planting flowers.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Maxine.
