May V. Wynia, 108, a resident of Bickford Cottage, died Sunday, August 31, 2014, at the care center. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014; at First Presbyterian Church, Marion, by Rev. Dr. Howard Chapman. There will be a brief visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2014, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. She and her husband never had children of their own.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marion; brothers, Jake and Albert Van Gorp; and sisters, Bessie Levin and Marie GeGoey.
May was born January 10, 1906, to Jacob and Wilhelmina (DeGoode) Van Gorp in Pella, Iowa. She was married to Marion W. Wynia on June 16, 1934, in Kohka, Missouri. May took care of her ailing mother in their home until her passing on November 30, 1940. She and Marion moved to Marion, Iowa in 1941, where they both found employment with Collins Radio. May was employed at Rockwell until her retirement in 1984, at the age of 78; she was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Union #1362. May and Marion became members of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion in 1943, where she held position of Superintendent of Sunday School from 1944 until 2003. During this time, she was also active in the Helping Hand Store. Marion passed away on September 6, 1966. May remained in their home until February 27, 2007, when she became a resident of Bickford Cottage.
This dear lady will be missed by her many friends she has accumulated over many years.
