Melba Joy Dye, 94, a resident of Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, died there Monday, December 6, 2010. Services: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa, by Kay Mineck. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Lyla Bendsen of Oak Park, Illinois, Marlene (Don) Washburn of Marion, Dan (Diana) Dye of Central City, and Lois Olsen of Vermillion, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; 2 brothers; and 1 grandson, Tod Washburn.
Melba was born October 13, 1916, the daughter of Dan and Clara (Barnes) Hathaway, in Gross, Nebraska. She married Lyle E. Dye on August 31, 1935 in Clark, South Dakota. He died May 30, 1992. Melba was a longtime school teacher in the Marion and Cedar Rapids school systems. She was a graduate of Coe College; an active member of the Springville Presbyterian Church, ABWA, the Broken Bit Saddle Club, and several other organizations. Melba was an avid card player and enjoyed crafts.
