Melvin "Mel? J. McCormick, 68, of 2803 Sue Lane NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, July 17, 2006, in his home, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 20,2006, at St. Jude?s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Brian Dellaert. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha; two daughters, Julie McCormick of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sheryl McCormick of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Donald (Linda) of Marion, Iowa, and Robert (Julie) of Keystone, Iowa; a sister, Catherine (Dan) Martin of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, Bill (Mary Jo) Guider of Vinton, Iowa; and his special dog, Puzzle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mel was born August 1, 1937, the son of Bernard and Irene (Voss) McCormick, in Van Horne, Iowa. On January 24, 1959, he was united in marriage to Marsha Guider in Van Horne. Mel worked as an engineering tech at Rockwell Collins for 45 plus years. A member of the St. Jude?s Catholic Church, he enjoyed golf, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an avid reader.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy or American Cancer Society in memory of Mel.
