Mildred C. Griggs, 97, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Linn Manor Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Riverview Bible Church in Central City, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Central City is assisting the family.

Mildred was born on December 6, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Ross O. Davis and Dolly G (Switzer) Davis. The family moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, when she was 2. Mildred attended Marshalltown schools and graduated from Marshalltown High School with the Class of 1946. She attended Central Iowa Business College and was employed at Gamble's.

On December 19, 1947, she married Lowell V. Griggs at First Friends Church in Marshalltown. Lowell was a Veteran and student at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where they would live. In 1950, Lowell and Mildred began farming at Garrison, Iowa. In 1960, they sold the farm and moved to Marshalltown, Iowa. They moved to Clearfield, Iowa in 1962. In 1970, they moved to Sheldon, Iowa. In 1972, they moved to Central City, Iowa, where they would remain. She was employed by Nash Finch Co. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1972 until her retirement.

In all of the places they lived, Mildred was active in the Methodist Church; she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Women's Bible Study, and was President of United Methodist Women. She devoted her life to teaching the Gospel and reading the Bible. She loved playing hymns on the piano. Mildred loved her family and always wanted to be together for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. The family spent many vacations together in Minnesota on Pleasant Lake.

Mildred was a devoted wife of Lowell for 48 years until his passing in 1995. She was a devoted mother of 4 sons and daughters-in-law. She loved her 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mildred will be greatly missed by family and friends and happily received by her Lord and Savior that she worshiped.

Mildred is survived and lovingly remembered by her four sons, Terry (Barbara) Griggs of Marion, Iowa, Tom (Julie) Griggs of Anamosa, Iowa, Daniel (Patty) Griggs of Central City, and Doug (Karla) Griggs of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Kenny), Eric (Amanda), Adam (Beth), Matthew, Ben (Chanda), Kara (Shawn), Chad (Samantha), Nicole, and Paige (Chaise); 13 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Aidan, Parker, Levi, Charlotte, Rhys, Tinley, Thomas, Andrew, Noah, Quinn, Lainey, and Michael; sisters-in-law, Joyce Davis of Burlington, Iowa, and Sonya Davis of Upland, California; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Dolly Davis; husband, Lowell Griggs; daughters, Terri, Tina, and Trudy Griggs; grandson, Joseph; sister, Barbara Harfst; brothers, Marvin and Robert Davis; and in-laws, Burt and Jenny Griggs, Maurice and Clarice Griggs, John and Mina Parker, and Robert and Faye Lampman.
