Milo Otto Timmerman
July 28, 1928 — January 2, 2015
Milo Otto Timmerman, 86, of Manchester, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 2, 2015, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Delaware, Iowa by Pastor Don Krause. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Bohnenkamp Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester, Iowa, as well as from 9:00 am – 10:30 am before services on Wednesday at the church. Per his wishes, Milo will be cremated. Disposition of his earthly cremains will take place at a later date and with his immediate family.
Milo was born on July 28, 1928, the son of John Henry “Otto” and Anna Marie “Mary” (Poggemiller) Timmerman. He attended school in Manchester. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 – 1949 aboard the USS Maddox. On October 5, 1952 Milo was united in marriage to Mary Elaine Whitehead. Born to this union were nine children: Kathleen, John, Jean, Wayne, Susan, Lori, Janeen, James, and Amy. Milo worked as a school bus driver, the D.O.T, then as a custodian at the Delaware County Courthouse, prior to his retirement. Milo was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Delaware, Iowa.
He spoke often of his beloved childhood dog, Smokey. Milo was a very skilled carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, tractors, Western movies and was very proud of his service with the U.S. Navy.
Milo is survived by his children: Kathleen Timmerman (Rick Thomas), John (Becky) Timmerman, Wayne (Cathy) Timmerman, Susan (Steve) Wulfekuhle, Lori (Bob) Madrick, Janeen (Delbert) Hettinger, James (Leticia) Timmerman, and Amy (Jason) Reeves as well as many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving Milo are his siblings, Allan Timmerman and Della (Robert) Ruppert; as well as a sister-in-law Bernadine (Lawless) Timmerman; and nine nephews and nine nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on December 28, 2014; parents, John Henry “Otto” and Anna Marie “Mary” (Poggemiller) Timmerman; his daughter, Jean (Jeannie) Timmerman; his grandsons, Scott J. Wulfekuhle and Mark M. Hettinger; four brothers, Alfred, Everett, Earl and Harlan; three sisters, Gladys O’Dell, Elsie Moser and Mary Ross; and eight nephews and six nieces.
