Monica was born at St. Agnes Hospital, on August 2, 1938, to Leo and Veronica (Loehr) Kramer in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The second of 12 children, she enjoyed life on the farm with so many siblings and grandparents close-by. She attended St. Michael’s Catholic School for 7 years and had her last year of grade school at Our Lady of Angels, Armstrong, Wisconsin. Monica graduated from St. Mary’s Springs High School with honors. Following graduation, she worked for A. C. Nielsen Marketing Research, before marrying her high school sweetheart, John Roltgen, in 1959, and moving to South Bend, Indiana. An employment opportunity resulted in a 1965 move to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Monica was a stay-at-home mom, devoted to her family and church. She was always involved with her children’s school and scouting activities and helping at church functions. Later, she applied her Nielsen experience to working at Collins Community Credit Union as a teller. She enjoyed meeting people, daily walks, a good bridge game, gardening and observing nature.
