Nancy Lou (Hamblin) Blazek, 76, of Fairfax, Iowa, passed away May 21, 2009, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. A gathering celebrating Nancy’s life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. She was cremated and there will be no services. Burial at a later date.
Nancy was born January 10, 1933, to Lucille Horner and Don Hamblin in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Logan High School. Nancy married Richard Blazek on September 20, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas. After relocating to the Cedar Rapids area, Nancy began a 29 year career at Quaker Oats as a Human Resources Representative and retired in 2004. Since her career was the joy of her life, she continued working as Office Manager of the RWDSU office from 2004 until May of 2009.
Nancy was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Fairfax. She was also a proud member of the Quaker Oats Quarter Century Club. For many years, Nancy helped organize the banquet.
Survivors include her husband, Dick; her family of friends at Quaker Oats; and her special family, Brenda and Dan Wombold of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Nancy was admired for her kind, compassionate manner, her beautiful smile, and her keen mind and memory. She always wanted to learn new skills. Nancy loved and took such an interest in the families of her dear friends. Nancy loved animals, especially her dog, cat and bird.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Avenue, Hiawatha, Iowa 52233.
