Naomi E. Wade, 89, of Red Oak, IA, formerly of Marion, IA, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Arlington Place of Red Oak, where she had been a resident for one year. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Naomi’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, in Marion, where the family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service time on Saturday, at the church. The Rev. Beth Hilkerbaumer and Rev. Dr. Dave Henion will officiate. A private burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are in the care of Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Marion.
Naomi was born on January 22, 1929, at Keokuk County, Iowa, one of ten children to Andy Jacob “A.J.” and Florence Celia (Frank) Sheetz. She was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School in Washington, IA. During her high school years, Naomi was a live-in housekeeper for a widow in Washington. She was employed with the former Washington Pearl Button Factory in Washington, which was housed in the former Mill Seed Company building. On February 5, 1949, Naomi married Fred Wesley Wade in Mt. Pleasant, IA. To this union, three children were born, Juanita, Randy and Sandy. In 1956, Fred and Naomi moved their family to Marion, IA. She was a wonderful homemaker, and enjoyed selling AVON and Shaklee Products, as well as serving on the Marion Civil Service Board. Naomi was a 62-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, where she served as Elder and Deacon. Naomi enjoyed spending time visiting people who were home bound and in nursing homes. Some of Naomi’s hobbies included being outdoors golfing, fishing and mushroom hunting. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and dominos. Naomi was a loving, caring and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Juanita (Dan) Martinez of Red Oak, Iowa, Randy (Sue) Wade of Parker, Colorado and Sandy (Rev. Dr. Dave) Henion of Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Aubrey (Leo) Alvarez, Danielle (Scott) Weber, Tyler Kimberlin, Tanner (Natalie) Kimberlin, Corinne Kimberlin, Joshua (Erica) Henion, Jordan Henion, and Jessica (Nathan) Rausch; eight great-grandchildren, Lulu and Nora Alvarez, Jadyn and Mya Weber, Easton, Cohen and Maelynn Henion, and Haylee Henneberg; one sister, Pauline Cady of Keota, Iowa; one brother, Jim (Ginger) Sheetz of Kinross, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Carole Sheetz of Grand Junction, Colorado and Ann Sheetz of Keota, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 56 years, Fred Wade in 2005; five brothers, Richard Sheetz, Roger Sheetz, Raymond Sheetz, Paul Sheetz and Larry Sheetz; and two sisters, Marjorie Davison and Rebecca Imogene Sparby.
In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be made in Naomi’s name to First Presbyterian Church, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice.
