Nellie Mae Stanek, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully in Ripon, Wisconsin, on April 4, 2006. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 by the Rev. Robert Voels at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three children, Charlene Wharton of Cedar Rapids, Marvin (Doris) Stanek of Walford, and Beverly (Scott) Sonnkalb of Ripon, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, James (Lois) Primmer of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Marian (Cappy) Edler of State Center; a sister-in-law, Maxine Primmer of Center Point; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two infant brothers, Allen and Donald; a brother, Stanley Primmer; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Bob Morse; and son-in-law, Walter Wharton.
She was born October 18, 1914, the daughter of Clarence and Vera (Budd) Primmer in Mt. Auburn, Iowa. She graduated from Tama High School in 1933. On April 5, 1937, she married Leo J. Stanek in Cedar Rapids. They enjoyed 62 loving years together. He died in 1999. Nellie helped Leo on the farm for 45 years.
Nellie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, the Cedar Rapids Bluff View Ladies Aide and the Forever Friends Group. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers memorials for Trinity United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society have been established.
