Nelson J. Stookey
February 4, 1913 — March 28, 2006
Nelson J. "Stook? Stookey, 93, of Central City, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Strawn Cemetery, rural Palo. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
He is survived by his wife, Esther; daughters, June Wells of Cincinnati, Iowa and Marilyn Sonnemann of Pound, Wisconsin; a brother, John (Gilda) Stookey of Palo; and several step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his past wife, Mildred; and a sister, Flora Gillis.
Stook was born February 4, 1913, the son of Samuel and Bertha (Kocher) Stookey in Palo. On October 3, 1977, he married Esther Wnukowski Bolton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He owned and operated his welding and machine shop for over fifty years. He was on the Central City Fire Department for forty years.
