Olaf M. “Roggy” Rogness, 91, of 271 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Garnet Place, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness: Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Philip Jorgensen. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Ossian Hillside Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa, with military honors.
Survivors include his three children, Susan (Rich) Krueger of Aurora, Illinois, Rita Kessell of Chicago, Illinois, and Richard (Linda) Rogness of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Shelley Krueger, Katie Krueger, Kyle Kessell, Nicklaus (Brianne) Ulrich and Lindsey Rogness; a great-granddaughter, Alicea Ulrich; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Seery of Decorah, Iowa, and Ella Mae Dvorak of Ionia, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Victor Halverson of Ossian, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alma Yeoman; a brother, Leonard; and his wife, Helen.
Olaf was born July 7, 1915, the son of Erik and Lena (Stenland) Rogness, in Ossian, Iowa. He served with the United States Air Force during World War II. On May 17, 1947, Olaf was united in marriage to Helen Dvorak in Ossian, Iowa. Helen died January 29, 2007. Olaf worked in sales at Getty Oil for 40 years and also at his family run business Gla-Zit, Inc. for 45 years. His office was his car and he always got a new office each year.
Olaf was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan, loved to travel and was a snowbird for many years. He enjoyed having coffee throughout the years with his friends at Hy-Vee, Pine Inn, EconoFoods, and Donutland. Olaf also enjoyed visiting different restaurants. Olaf was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
Military honors by American Legion Post 503 of Ossian, Iowa.
