Omer John “Jack” Farrell, 76, of the Woodlands at Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Wednesday, August 29, 2007, following a long illness. Services with military honors: 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Nils Hernandez. The family will greet friends from 5-9 Saturday, September 1, 2007, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Darlene) Farrell of Swisher, Iowa, Karen (Robert Freeman) Fine-Freeman of Lombard, Illinois, Gregory (Lara) Farrell of Fallbrook, California and Matthew (Gina) Farrell of Aliso Viejo, California; former wife, Nancy; grandchildren, Rachel, Joshua and Nicholas Farrell, Shelby Pfalzgraf, Leah, Sonya, Krysta, Elizabeth and Kristin Farrell; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mary Jane Schulte of Watkins, Iowa and Glenda (John) Houston of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Eula Schulte.
Jack was born June 23, 1931, in Norway, Iowa, the son of Omer and Nettie (Nolan) Farrell. He attended the University of Iowa, receiving a degree in Business Administration. He served in the US Air Force as a first lieutenant and received a Commendation Medal for revamping the entire enlistment program. He served a tour of duty in Iceland and was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in California. Jack was married to Nancy English for 18 years. He was an executive for several financial services companies.
Jack had a passion for flying and enjoyed boating and golfing.
A memorial fund has been established in Jack’s memory.
