Peter P. Stemper, 61, of 1985 Daleview Drive, Marion, died Sunday, October 30, 2005, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, from complications of multiple sclerosis and cancer. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, from 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne "Bonnie?; four children, Julie (Phillipp) Stemper-Brown of Elgin, Illinois, Michael Stemper and Patrick Stemper, both of Marion, and David Stemper of Everett, Washington.

Peter also leaves the following family members to celebrate his life: his father, Phillip H. Stemper of Dubuque; his five siblings, Mary (James) Kress, Kathy (Steven) Slaght and Ellen (William) Kaiser, all of Dubuque, Paul (Diane) Stemper of Sherrill, Iowa, and Janice Stemper of Dubuque. He is also survived and loved by many counsins, extended family and friends.

Peter was preceded in death by his mother, Helen L. Stemper.

Peter was born on August 26, 1944, raised in Dubuque, Iowa, and graduated from Wahlert High School in 1962. He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1968 and attended Kirkwood Community College. He married LaVonne Krug in 1970 and resided in Marion for thirty-five years. Over the years, Peter worked for Collins, Harnischfeger and Rockwell Goss.

Peter was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son and friend to all who knew him. He was caring, thoughtful and warmhearted. As an avid sports fan, he loved to bowl, support the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings. Most importantly, Peter was a mentor to his children and instilled the values of hard work, fairness, generosity and love. Peter will be greatly missed.
