Rachel Marie (Evans) Powell

Rachel Marie (Evans) Powell, 49, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at her home. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private Burial will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Iowa.

Rachel was born on August 1, 1977, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Lori Jo Evans. She graduated from Rockford High School in 1996 and received her BA and MS from Purdue Global in Higher Education. Rachel was united in marriage to Troy Powell on November 6, 2021. She worked in Career Services at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Rachel was an impossible optimist. She loved her pets, giraffes and cheering for the Indiana Fever. The Iowa Donor Network was very close to Rachel’s heart, and she was a passionate volunteer and supporter. Rachel had a shirt that said, “Be the Good” and her family asks everyone do something good for someone in honor and memory of Rachel.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Troy Powell of Cedar Rapids; mother, Lori (Justin) Peterson of Rudd, Iowa; twin brother, Ryan Evans (Stephanie Colby) of Mason City, Iowa, sister, Stephanie Peterson of Nora Springs, Iowa; brother, Thomas Peterson (Amy Hager) of Mason City; nephews, Aidan and Keaton Colby of Mason City; stepdaughter, Alexandra (Shaun) Braaksma of Cedar Rapids; and step-grandchildren, Ophelia and Royce Moeller and Esme Braaksma.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mildred and Darrel Evans; uncles, Mike and Dave Evans; and aunt, Terry Evans.
