Ray H. Avis, 91, of 1820 I St. SW, formerly of Coggon, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a sudden illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Les Larson. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, rural Troy Mills.
Survivors include two sons, Allan and John and their families; five granddaughters, Kris, Tammy, Ronietta, Nolita and Lisa and their families; two grandsons, Bill and Bruce, and their families; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Charlotte; great-grandson, David; three brothers, Dorsee, Floyd, and Jesse; and two sisters, Jenny and Maude.
Ray was born March 23, 1915, the son of Richard and Delia (Everett) Avis in Troy Mills. On March 2, 1940, he married Ruth Marlene Price. Together, they farmed in the Troy Mills/Coggon area for sixty years. Ruth died June 6, 2003. Ray enjoyed fishing, shindigs with his family, taking care of his dog, talking with people, and he loved to eat. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
