Raymond “Ray” Nodurft, 97, of Manchester, died Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the Good Neighbor Home. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Manchester, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Ray was born July 25, 1917 on the Nodurft Homestead Farm west of Strawberry Point, Iowa where his Great-Grandfather, Grandfather and Father lived.
He graduated from Strawberry Point High School May 21, 1936; Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa June 5, 1940.

He entered the army in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. Ray received the American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Ray married Marjorie M. Maurer on July 24, 1949 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Delaware, Iowa.
He taught Business and Mathematics in High School for nineteen years and was Assistant Cashier at Citizens State Bank, Wyoming, Iowa for nineteen years. He served as Treasurer of Christ Lutheran Church, Gladbrook, Iowa; Zion Lutheran Church, Wyoming, Iowa and Our Savior Lutheran Church, Manchester, Iowa. He served as Lions Club President at Wyoming, Iowa and Secretary and Treasurer of Wyoming Housing. He was President of the Manchester Senior Citizens for several years and was a member of the Delaware County Senior Center Board for several years.

His main hobbies were Genealogy, Gardening, Card Playing and Photography. Ray raised a big garden and would take his produce to the Farmers Market and the Delaware County Fair. Prior to entering the Good Neighbor Home, Ray enjoyed living at The Meadows. He participated in several activities and appreciated the loving tender care of the employees of the Good Neighbor Society.

Ray is survived by his sisters, Vonda Billhorn, Manchester; Vernita Pape, Stanley; brother-in-law, Ben Johnson, and sister-in-law Bessie Maurer, both of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie on June 28, 2003.
