Rex Wayne Lancaster, 73, of Fairfax, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, surrounded by family, at his home. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the funeral home, with Pastor Paul Jones officiating. Cremation will follow services and a Private Family Committal will take place at a later date.
Rex was born on August 13, 1953, in Ft. Madison, Iowa, the son of Donald and Rita (Gehle) Lancaster. He was a 1971 graduate of Aquinas Catholic School in Ft. Madison and went on to study carpentry at Southeastern Community College, where he earned his associates degree. On March 11, 1989, Rex was united in marriage to Renee Kay Enabnit in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
From his earliest days, Rex became a carpenter and embodied a dedicated work ethic. He saved earnestly, always with the goal of enjoying his retirement, together with Renee. Their golden years were filled with adventure, togetherness, and joyful escapes to the Caribbean. He followed all types of racing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Rex also enjoyed baseball and especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rex is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Renee Lancaster of Fairfax; son, Dillon (Bronwyn) Lancaster of Fairfax; two grandchildren, Malakai and Roman; brother, Robert Lancaster (Renee Lunemann) of Solon, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Robyn (Wesley) Askren of Tennessee, Candice (Michael) Krall of Solon, and Genese (David) Witwer of San Diego, California; and many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials in Rex’s memory may be directed to Calvary Community Church or to the family to be designated later.
