Richard “Dick” Butterfield, 90, of Center Point, Iowa, died Saturday, March 14, 2026. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point. Burial will take place at a later date at Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa.
Dick was born on July 23, 1935, in Troy Mills, Iowa, the son of Dorwin and Beulah (Jestes) Butterfield. He married Mary Ellen Klindt on December 6, 1952, and the couple later divorced. Four children were born to this union: William, Kevin, Gregory, and Lester. Dick later married B. LaVonne Zeran on June 4, 1983, and they also later divorced. He dedicated 45 years of his career to Cedar Rapids, Inc., formerly known as Iowa Manufacturing, until his retirement in 2000.
A hardworking and dependable man, Dick was always willing to lend a hand. Over the years, he helped with farming, carpentry, and a variety of odd jobs. He and LaVonne spent many years traveling throughout the tri-state area, selling their crafts and flea market items. They also enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas. Life kept them busy, and they were always on the go.
Survivors include his children, Kevin (Julie) Butterfield of Toddville, Iowa, Gregory (Rita) Butterfield of Center Point, Iowa, and Lester Butterfield of Toddville, Iowa; his stepdaughter, Ann (Paul) Williamson of Decatur, Illinois; his grandchildren, Andrew (Janet) Butterfield, Melanie Butterfield, Cody Butterfield, Lilith Butterfield, Justin Butterfield, Daniel Butterfield, Derek (Jennifer) Butterfield, Christopher (Lindsay) Butterfield, and Amber Johnson; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Joy Knight; and his special dear friends, Howard and Sandra Ashlock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorwin and Beulah Butterfield; his son, William Butterfield; his stepdaughter, Cynthia Zeran; his siblings, Audrey Butterfield, Lester Butterfield, Winona Lown-Richardson, and Garnett Mishler; and his brothers-in-law, Jerald Clyde, Keith Lown, Paul Richardson, and Laverne Knight.
