Richard “Dick” Jordan, 86, of Swisher, Iowa, died Sunday, November 30, 2014, at his home. Service: 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 1:00 until service time on Friday. Inurnment at a later date at Anderson Cemetery, Swisher. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Swisher American Legion at 4:00 p.m. Friday.
Survivors include his sons, Russ (Laura) Jordan of Redlands, California, Mike (Lorraine) Jordan and Kurt (Peggy) Jordan all of Swisher, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Dan) Graham, Jason Jordan, Lisa Jordan, Jenny (Vince) Arioso, Christina Jordan, Nik Jordan and Tarah Jordan; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Elaine Fulton of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna Jordan; brother-in-law, Chuck Fulton; and uncle, Raymond Urban.
Dick was born on January 5, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Edward and Rose (Urban) Jordan. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids, in January of 1947. Dick served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant at the training command in Germany during the Korean War. On February 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Verna Neuhaus, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Upon discharge the couple lived in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Square D and Century Engineering. Later he owned and operated Jordan’s Tavern in Swisher and then Jordan’s Recreational Sales from 1971-1976. He was the insides sales manager at Iowa Precision until he retired at the age of 70, in 1998. Dick will be remembered for his love of life and his unique sense of humor. Go Hawks!
