Richard D. Nemec

Richard D. Nemec, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, January 17, 2026, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family.

Richard was born January 2, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Lenore (Plotz) Nemec. He graduated from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1960 and continued his education at Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska, and Grandview College in Des Moines, Iowa. Richard worked in carpets and draperies for Armstrong’s and Smulekoff’s before owning and operating several businesses, including Carpets, Draperies, and More; Creative Window and Floor Coverings; and Trim and Tint for cars. He also installed privacy screens at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his partner of 51 years, Ken of Cedar Rapids; his stepfather, Bob Snelson of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Holly (Dave) Stotelmyre of Cedar Rapids; his nephews, Christopher (Jessica) Stotelmyre and Matthew (Javier) Stotelmyre, both of Cedar Rapids; and two great-nieces, Aubrey and Madison Stotelmyre.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
