Richard E. Sentman

Richard E. Sentman, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, September 17, 2026. A private family graveside service will be held at Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty, Iowa. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family.

Richard was born September 16, 1943, in Iowa, the son of Howard and Ardis (Yoder) Sentman. He graduated from Pekin High School and continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned his degree and met his wife, Jeanne. On June 5, 1971, Richard married Jeanne Bennett in Cedar Rapids.

Richard worked as a chemist for the City of Cedar Rapids Water Department. He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed participating in numerous RAGBRAI. An avid baseball fan, he enjoyed traveling to Chicago or Denver to watch the Cubs or Rockies. Richard also loved to read, learn new things, and keep his mind active.

Survivors include his son, Thad (Rebecca) Sentman of Cedar Rapids; three grandsons, Joshua, Daniel, and Michael, all of Cedar Rapids; his brother, John (Debbie) Shirkey of Oelwein, Iowa; and his nieces and nephews, Peggy Warnecke, Stephen Anderson, Erik Warnecke, Erin Warnecke, Wade Warnecke, Mark Sentman, Melissa Sentman, and Alan Sentman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Sentman; and his parents; and his brothers, Tom and Davis.
